This is a nice original Civil War era iron bullet mold. The mold measures 5-3/4ths inches in overall size. It is the version that is designed to cast a single bullet at a time. It makes the .44 caliber variation of the bullet known to collectors as the "Sugarloaf" bullet. The .41 caliber version of this bullet is illustrated on page 30 of the bullet book by McKee and Mason as figure #160. They do not illustrate a .44 caliber variation, but they would've been produced during the same timeframe. The metal of the mold has a beautiful dark attic style patina and open and closes is perfectly.
