This is a nice looking original CDV image of a Civil War Union soldier. The soldiers would buy these from the photographers in the cities or even from traveling photographers that would come to camp. They would purchase them in small quantities to send home to family or friends. This one shows the waist-up view of a the young Union soldier in his uniform. On the bottom of the card it reads in beautiful old Brown ink. "Anthony Bauer Artillery Brigade Band 2nd Corps near Petersburg, VA . 1864 Nov. 24". On the back of the card it has the George Washington stamps that are dated January 20, which would be the date the tax was paid on January 20, 1865. The records show that Anthony Bauer enlisted at 21 years old. On February 22, 1864 as a private in battery F of the 4th New York Heavy Artillery. He served until September 26, 1865 when he mustered out in Washington, DC. As you can see the images, it is very clear but does have the increase going right down the center of the card. This is a fine looking original CDV image of a Union soldier in uniform.
