This is one good looking button! It is a non-excavated coat size Militia pattern button. This is the version listed as GI59 in Albert’s button book. It would have been made about 1830 or so. The button is constructed of one piece of brass with an applied brass shank. The face has the Droop wing style eagle with the shield beside her. This is the version with the seven stars above the eagle and six down below. It has the beautiful original silver wash on the face which just gives it a beautiful look. On the reverse you can still read the "EXTRA STRONG PLATED” backmark. This is a fine looking original 1-piece militia button.
