This is an authentic CDV image of Union General Frederick West Lander ( 1821- 1862). Lander was born in Salem, Massachusetts on December 17, 1821. He served as an aid to Union General George McClellan and was commissioned Brigadier General on May 17, 1861. He was wounded at a skirmish at Edwards Ferry. He fought bravely until he became sick and died on March 2, 1862. It is a nice clear CDV of the General in his best dress uniform. The CDV images were made by applying a thin paper photo image of the famous person of the day to a heavier paper card. This made the image more durable and easier to display and also added uniformity to the size. The overall size of a CDV image is approximately 2.5 inches by 4 inches in size. On the back of the card it has the New Bedford, Massachusetts photographer Mark of Charles Taber and Co. It is a fine original CDV that will make a solid addition to any Civil War collection.
