I love the styling of this pattern of sword! This is the U.S. Model 1841 naval cutlass. They look like a gladiator sword with a wide hand guard. It has a full-length 21 inch blade with a nice light gray tone gray color look all over. As you see, it was plated long ago and retains approximately 95 percent of the plating. The guard and pommel has a wonderful golden patina all over with the fish scale design handle. On the blade side of the hand guard it has the number "18" stamped into the brass. The pommel cap has the eagle motif on each side. You often see this particular pattern sold as Confederate but is more likely that it is a commercially sold northern made naval Cutlass. This sword will occasionally show up with the retailer's marking from the famous Philadelphia firm of Horstmann. If it were Confederate it would be a couple thousand dollars higher in price. It displays beautifully as you can see and will definitely turn heads when it is in you relic room.
