This is an excellent sword all the way around. It is the French made artillery pattern short sword in scabbard. This is the sword that was patterned after the Roman style gladiator swords. They looked fierce but weren’t too handy in up-close fighting. They are very similar to the U.S. model 1832 short artillery sword. This one is in superb condition as you can see. It has the full-length blade that still has a fine bright luster to the metal. At the base of the blade you can see the Paris production location and maker’s marking still clearly visible. The cast brass handle is in excellent condition with a gorgeous color to the brass. The sword is accompanied by a fine original brass and leather scabbard. The leather is nice and solid. Several of these swords were imported before and during the Civil War and saw service on both sides of the battle. This is an excellent piece for any collector.
