This is a beautiful piece! It is the scarce original belt buckle that was worn by a member of the 6th North Carolina Confederate Infantry. This is the pattern that is illustrated as Plate #340 on Page 187 in the revised edition of the Mullinax book on Confederate Belt Buckles & Plates. The face of the belt buckle of the cast brass plate has the bold lettering that reads "6TH INF NC. ST." This version of plate has the period after the "S". These are the only regimentally marked belt buckle worn by a Confederate regiment. The reverse of these buckles utilized applied brass hooks for attachment to the belt. This one no longer retains any of the original three hooks intact as is so often the case with these buckles. All that held them in place was a tiny bit of solder. This one has a gorgeous look with a gorgeous deep green patina.
