On the front of the button it has the bold, proud letter "A" in block style that denotes the artillery branch of service. This is the version that has the tin back and brass shank and both are present on the back. This is the style listed as figure CSA243 in Tice's book and CS117 in Albert's button book. The verbal attribution that accompanied the button is that it was found years ago in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania along the Chambersburg Pike. his is an attractive excavated original Confederate artilleryman's coat button.
