This is an authentic excavated brass hunting horn hat insignia from the Civil War. The hunting horn design was used by the Infantry branch of service throughout the Civil War. When you see the images of the regular fighting men of the Civil War this is the style of insignia that they have on their hats. The brass is in fine displaying condition. It has a couple of bends but is still completely intact on the face. The reverse of the pin has the remnants of the soldier marks where the original attachment loops were at one time. This hat pin was excavated years ago by pioneering relic hunter, Bill Gavin. The tag that accompanies it states that he found it in a campsite of the 20th Connecticut. This is a very nice original hunting horn from one the relic hunting pioneers.
