This is a fine looking non-excavated belt buckle. This is the classic style that was worn by the regular fighting men of the Civil War. They are very distinctive because of the stud style hooks on the back. This one is in very nice shape all the way around. It has all three of the original hooks intact on the reverse of the plate along with superb lead. Also on the back of the buckle we have the desirable maker’s mark of the "W.H. SMITH BROOKLYN” company that was located in Brooklyn, New York. The brass face of the plate has a crystal clear and bold "US’ lettering. It has a wonderful thick patina all overand you can tell that this one was used. It is a great looking non-excavated U.S. soldier’s belt buckle with maker mark.
