This is a neat plate from the state of Kentucky. This is the plate that at one time would have adorned the outer flap of a cartridge box. This one is from the Kentucky Military Academy because of the "KMA" lettering on the front. The brass front is backed with lead and has both of the original iron loops intact. These are how the plate attached to the flap of the cartridge box. This plate would have been made after the Civil War and probably in the 1880's or 1890's. It is in beautiful non-excavated condition all the way around.
