This is a nice authentic excavated original Civil War boxplate from a soldier’s cartridge box. This is the plate that went on the outer flap not only for decoration but to help keep the flap closed. It has the crystal clear " US” letters on the front with a very pleasing look all over. One of the two original iron loops is missing off of the back and it has a good original lead. The ink notation on the back of this plate is that it was found in the area of "STONEMAN'S CAMP 12 N.H.V. CAMP". It also states that it was found in Stafford Court House in December of 1967. It also has the tag where it was sold by my friends at the Horse Soldier Relic Shop in Gettysburg a few years ago. This is a nice addition to an already attractive plate.
