This is your opportunity to get a very elusive Civil War button. This is the coat size button that was worn by someone from the University of Alabama. These were made by the Scovill Firm in Waterbury, Connecticut in the 1850's. They were sold with the New York City retailer marking on the reverse from the firm of Young, Smith & Company. This is the version that is listed as SU14 in Albert's button book and as ABS280 in Tice's button book. The face of the button has the image of the seal of the University of Alabama and around the edge reads the Latin "UNIVERSITAT. ALABAM". This one has the original rose colored gilt remaining in the recesses and the gilt makes the detail really stand out. It has the original back and shank still nicely intact on the reverse.
