This is a beautifully designed Civil War cadet button. This is the one listed as SU378 in Albert’s button book and as MDS275c1 in Tice’s book. It is the 20mm size button for the St. Timothy Hall that was located in Cantonsville, Maryland. Confederate general Fitzhugh Lee and Lincoln's assassin, John Wilkes Booth attended this school. The face of the button has the school name as well as the star and in the center of the button. It has the plain background. This one is in beautiful non-excavated condition with original gold gilding remaining on the face. On the back of the button it has the original back and shank intact. It has the correct backmark. This version was made by the Waterbury Button Company firm in Waterbury, Connecticut before the war broke out. This is a great looking Confederate used St. Timothy Hall Academy cadet button.
