This is a superb non-excavated Confederate uniform button for the Infantry branch of service. This is the style listed as figure CS175 in Albert’s button book and as CSI212A6 in Tice’s button book. This is the unmarked brass back version of the script style infantry that has the "floating” style shank. This style shank is associated with being produced by the firm of Peter Tait in Limerick. The maker mark was left off of the back so it could be sold by any retailer without advertising for the actual maker. They were imported for the well-to-do Confederate soldiers through the blockade. It has a clear script style "I” on the button’s face that can be seen from across the room. The original shank is intact on the reverse of the button. This is a beautiful looking original non-excavated Confederate script style Infantry coat button.
