This is a very rare version of the Mississippi uniform button. This is the pattern that is listed as MP1 in Albert’s button book and as MP200a1 in Tice’s button book. It is in beautiful non-excavated condition as you can see in the pictures. Around the edge of the button it reads "MISSISSIPPI”. In the center of the 22mm coat button it has the large style star in the center of the button. It has the lined background. On the back of the button it has the original back and shank intact. In the recesses of the button you can still see a fine amount of the original gold gilding. These buttons were made in Waterbury, Connecticut by the Scovill firm and wholesaled to the New Orleans by the firm of Hyde & Goodrich. It has their retailer mark on the back of the button. These were made about 1860. There were very few of these buttons ever made and even fewer survive in this beautiful non-excavated condition. This is a beautiful and rare Confederate used Mississippi coat button!
