This is a fine looking original piece from the 1890's U.S. military. This is the Model 1887 pattern of belt buckle for the woven belt. These were made by the Mills firm and were designed to go on the belt that held the cartridges on the woven openings on the body of the belt. In the book they state that they were likely for the soldiers that were still equipped with the Model 1873 series of trapdoor rifles. This one is nice beautiful condition. It has the original brass Mills plate that has the "US" lettering which of course stands for the United States. This is a great piece of late 1800's military history!
