This is a beautiful and rare non-excavated coat size version of the 22mm Confederate staff officer button. This pattern is one of the most elusive versions of Confederate staff officer buttons. These were made in Paris, France and imported for the most wealthy Confederate officers. This button will have the "T.W & W PARIS" maker marking. The originals of this button style are extremely well made and have a crisply marked backmark. They also show up in a 14mm size which is also quite scarce. This is the style listed as CS3 in Albert's button book and CS255a1 in Tice's button book. This fine button would have been imported through the blockade to be sold by the high quality retailers. This would have adorned the front of a Confederate staff officer's coat that would have been proudly worn by that Confederate soldier. It is in very attractive condition and is a must have for any advanced Civil War Confederate button collection.
