This is an authentic excavated original Civil War breastplate from a soldier’s cartridge box sling. excavated eagle breastplate from the Civil War. This is the circular plate that would have adorned the shoulder strap to a Civil War cartridge box. It has the bold union eagle on the front of the plate. In one talon she holds the arrows of war and in the other talon is the branch of peace. One of the original two iron loops are intact on the back of the plate. It has a nice amount of the original lead. This piece has the paper tag from our friends at the Horse Soldier in Gettysburg. They sold the plate years ago and they made the notation that this plate was part of the famous Rosensteel Collection from Gettysburg. The tag states that it was recovered from just in front of the General Sedgewick Statue on Sedgewick Avenue. It is an excellent piece of Civil War history from the most famous battle of the Civil War.
