This is a fine excavated belt buckle. This is the classic style that was worn by the regular fighting men of the Civil War. This is the version that has the arrow style belt attachment hooks on the reverse. This one still has all three of the original hooks intact and in fine shape. This one is in nice excavated condition. It has the majority of the original lead. The brass face of the plate has a crystal clear and bold "US" lettering. This piece was sold by our friends at the Horse Soldier in Gettysburg. Their tag has the notation that this plate was found at the "3rd Corp Hiosp Site". It is an excellent piece of Civil War history from the most famous battle of the Civil War.
