Here is an original militia style oval belt buckle that is very likely Confederate in manufacture. This buckle measures 63 mm tall and is 82 mm wide. It is constructed out of the simple piece of sheet brass with no markings on the face. When you turn the plate over you see where one of the original hooks were soldered on at one time. . This would be one of the most inexpensive ways to produce a functional belt buckle. The verbal history that accompanied the piece is that this one was found at Sackets Harbor, New York at the site of the May 29th 1813 battle of the War of 1812. This one has a good displaying look especially for the price.
