This is a nice looking gun! It is an original Civil War Enfield pattern .577 caliber rifle. This is the Civil War production made in England like would have been brought through the blockade. It has the 1862 date of production on the lockplate to go along with the "TOWER” arsenal stamp and also the British crown stamp. The action works well on all positions. The barrel is full-length and has the British proof marks faintly visible at the breech. The bore of the gun as being .577 in caliber. The bore of the gun no longer has the lands and grooves of rifling visible and the bore is as dark as the rest of the gun. It has the original front sight still nicely intact and it has had the original rear sight replaced with one from a Remington Maynard Conversion rifle. The gun has one of the original two sling swivels remaining. It has a nice original ramrod in the channel underneath the barrel that is in nice shape and the threads are present. The stock has a very pretty deep dark tone to the wood that makes it display quite well. This is a very attractive looking Civil War 1862 dated Enfield pattern rifle that displays well.
