This is a beautiful original Civil War U.S. Belt & Buckle. This is the style with the leather belt. The piece is in well worn but complete condition and has a lot of eye appeal. It has the pretty honey color on the brass buckle face from the years it spent in storage. It also has the original brass length adjuster on the other end of the belt. On the back of the buckle it has excellent lead remaining and all three of the original arrow style hooks intact. It is accompanied by an authentic Civil War percussion capbox. It is the leather pouch that would have held the soldier’s percussion caps for his pistol, carbine or musket. On the inner flap you can see the Civil War maker’s mark of Metzger of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania still visible. On the lower portion of the closure tab it has the remnants of the oval inspector stamp from the U.S. Government inspector for the Ordnance Department "W.H. JONES”. The closure tab and brass finial are intact and nice. On the back of the box it has both of the belt loops are present. The inner flap is present as are the ears on the sides of the flap. On the innermost compartment it has traces the lamb's wool remaining. It also still has the original Civil War Springfield pattern socket bayonet with scabbard. This is the classic style that will fit the U.S. model 1855, 1861 or 1863 Springfield or contract maker rifle bayonet. The bayonet is full-length with a pleasing look. At the base of the blade it has the "US" stamp still visible. The socket is also in fine shape with the original locking ring and screw intact and fully functional. The scabbard displays well as you can see. It has the original brass scabbard tip present on the bottom of the scabbard body. This scabbard is the style with the eight rivet construction up on the top near the belt loop, which is fully intact and attached to the belt. This is a fine looking set that you can tell saw service but was never abused.
