This is a great looking piece of Michigan history. This is the discharge paper given to a soldier when they were mustered out of service. This one is dated September 17th 1864. It is discharging Silas Allen at the rank of 1st Segt. of the 1st Michigan Light Artillery. The piece is on beautiful preprinted paper and has the blanks filled in with fine Brown ink. The document measures 8 1/2 inches wide and stands 11inches tall. It has the eagle image in the center and top. The records show that Allen enlisted on August 28th 1861in the 1st Michigan Light Artillery. He served with this regiment until September 17th1864 when he mustered out. A brief printout of Allen's service as well as that of the 1st Michigan will accompany the document at no additional charge.
