This is a very pretty non-excavated shoulder belt plate like the one illustrated as figure 785 on page 466 of the belt buckle and plate book by O'Donnell and Campbell. They state that these were worn by militia units from 1860 until 1870. It is produced of a rolled brass plate with the round brass belt hooks applied to the reverse. As you can see this one has a very attractive untouched color all over. All 3 of the original attachment cooks are present on the back. It is a beautiful original shoulder belt plate.
