When was the last time you had a chance to own one of these? This is an original Austrian made cavalry saber. It is recorded that some of these swords of this style were imported for use by the Confederate cavalry during the Civil War. Since they added no Confederate markings to them we can't know for sure but it has an honest chance of being Rebel used. This one is in relic condition and the verbal history is that it came from the area outside of Richmond, Virginia known as Mechanicsville. has the full-length blade that measures 33 inches in overall length. It has the double edged point with the single fuller that goes about 3/4ths of the blade length. At the base of the back side of the blade it has the Austrian style proof marks along with the remnants of the "JURMANN" maker's mark. The sword is accompanied by the original metal scabbard which you can tell protected the blade as it was intended. The scabbard is complete with both of the mounts and rings as well as the drag and throat. This pattern of scabbard has the two screws on the sides that hold the throat in place. This is good looking relic condition Model 1858 Austrian Pattern Cavalry Saber found near Richmond.
