This is a great looking original Civil War soldiers belt and buckle. You can tell that the soldier used this one for quite a while which gave it a wonderful look. It has a fine original U.S. belt buckle with letters that stand out for a great look. On the back of the plate it has all three of the belt hooks remaining. This is the style that has the arrow style hooks on the back of the buckle. The buckle is accompanied by an original black bridle leather belt. The belt displays well and it has the wear you expect one to have that saw a lot of service but it is still nice and pliable. What is extra interesting is what has been done to the leather. You can tell that later on there was another piece of leather added. I looked at this and wondered what the story was. It finally hit me and here is my theory. The soldier wore this belt and buckle while he was serving and was a young skinny soldier. After the war, the soldier gained his weight as he aged and wanted to wear his belt to the veteran's reunions. He was too big to fit so he added the new section of leather and boom, it worked. On the back of the new section it has an old paper label that has what appears to be a name of "J. Morse". This is a fine looking authentic Civil War U.S. belt and buckle with a cool twist.
