This one is a very attractive Civil War era saber bayonet. This is the model that would have fit a Civil War era 2 band rifles or musket. It officially fits the French and Liege made Model 1842. This pattern is described on pages 176 to 177 of the book by Noe & Serbaroli entitled European Bayonets of the American Civil War. It has the full-length 22.6 inch blade and the bayonet measures 27.4 inches overall. The blade has the old pitting as you can see in the images and it is mentioned for exactness. At the base of the blade it has the maker’s mark of "P.D.L." which stands for Paul D. Lunderschloss of Solingen Germany It has several other proof markings on the brass and the other side of the blade. The cast brass handle has a fine look with the original locking spring intact. The iron cross guard is complete with a fine look as you can see and it is the smaller size that they state was made for .58 caliber version rifles. The bayonet is accompanied by the original scabbard that is so often missing in action. This is a nice displaying Civil War era saber bayonet.
