Here is a fine ink autograph of Thomas S. Allen. He served as Lt. Colonel of the 2nd Wisconsin Infantry and later as Colonel of the 5th Wisconsin Infantry during the Civil War. He was awarded the brevet, or honorary, rank of General in March of 1865 for his "gallant and meritorious services" during the War. He led the 5th in the fierce charge at Marye's Heights as well as at Gettysburg. After the Civil War he served as the Secretary of State for the State of Wisconsin. This is an official check from that office dated October 4th 1866. It has his distinctive ink signature in the lower right hand corner. A great piece from a brave soldier from the Badger State!
