This is an original $10.00 note from the Bank of East Tennessee in Knoxville. This bank was chartered in 1843 but did not open until 1850 and they closed down around 1858. This one was issued in 1853 and is so dated on the front. On the left hand side of the note it has the likeness of President James K. Polk and on the other side it has the image of John C. Calhoun. These notes were printed in Philadelphia by the Danforth, Wright Company. On the back side fo the note it has the beautiful red ink and proudly states "THE BANK OF EAST TENNESSEE". It is in attractive well circulated condition that displays well. The note is correctly hand signed & numbered. It comes in an acid free holder for display and preservation.
