Here is a nicely priced original 4 inch barrel length version .31 caliber Colt revolver. This is the classic version known to collectors as the model 1849 Colt. It has serial numbers, except for the un-numbered replacement wedge, of 174,083. They mis-struck the loading lever with "4383" instead of what should have been "4083". You can tell by the patina that it has been with it forever. Thanks to Mr. Colt’s bookkeepers we know that this would have been made in the middle part of 1860. The brass trigger guard and backstrap have a great look to the brass. It has nice mechanics on all positions. The original 1-piece wood grips are present with an attractive dark tone to the walnut. The cylinder retains some of the cylinder scene and the serial number marking. The metal has a very dark color all over with old pitting but no active pitting. The top of the barrel has the double line Samuel Colt maker’s mark and New York office location. The sales office was in New York and the actual production was done in Hartford, Connecticut. This is an original Civil War .31 caliber Colt revolver that doesn't cost a fortune.
