This is a nice looking original Civil War U.S. Belt & Buckle. This is the style with the brown buff leather belt. The leather has stiffened over the years and you can see where a bayonet scabbard was at one time. It has a vividly clear "US" on the brass buckle face. On the reverse of the buckle, it has the 3 original attachment hooks intact. What makes this one special is that it is one of the early pattern buckles with the "puppy paw" style stud hooks. It is the version that has the lead on the top of the brass stud bases. This pattern of buckle was produced in the earlier part of the Civil War before the arrow style hooks came into popularity. The belt has a worn look but as you can see it displays well. This is a good looking piece for your collection.
