This is a great looking knife. It is an original small size knife known as a "dirk". These were often used by naval officers as a sidearm. This one is a variant of the one illustrated as figure 5.53 on page 222 of Peter Tuite's book on Naval Swords and Dirks. This beauty measures about 8-1/2 inches in overall length with a pretty double edged 5-1/2 inch blade. The blade has the faint remnants of the gold inlaid etching on each side. The handle has a fantastic well worn look made of ivory with a gorgeous look all over. It has the brass crossguard with the floral design on the top and the smooth underside. It is missing the scabbard as is so often the case and it is priced accordingly. This is a gorgeous piece!
