Here is an original excavated cuff size Civil War era Dragoon button. The dragoon branch of service was a group of mounted infantry riflemen. The face of the button has the spread-wing eagle with the "D” shield on its chest. This denotes the dragoon branch of service. The Dragoons were a heavily armed branch of mounted soldiers designed to make a heavy and quick strike upon the enemy. It has a nice tone with good detail to the face. The original back is intact but the shank is missing in action. It will have the correct Scovill maker mark from Waterbury, Connecticut on the reverse. This is a great looking Civil War 13.5mm uniform button.
