This is an attractive original Civil War era powder flask. This one is marked on the spout by the maker "G.& J.W. Hawksley". Hawksley was from Sheffield, England and was one of the premiere powder flask makers of the 1800's. The body has the deer's head design scenes on each side and makes it more desirable. The seams are solid. The flask stands about 9-3/4ths inches tall and is about 4-1/2 inches across. This one is the very large size that would have been used with a large rifle or musket. There is a picture to show how large it is compared to a standard pistol size flask. The spout is present with an old replacement spring intact and it is functional. It is a cool BIG flask that has a very attractive overall look!
