This is an original CDV image of Confederate General Benjamin Franklin Cheatham. Cheatham was born on October 20th 1820 in Nashville. At the outbreak of the War he became a Major General of the Tennessee Militia. He was appointed a Brigadier General in Confederate service on July 9th 1861 and Major General on March 10th 1862. He commanded int he Army of Tennessee all the way from Shiloh until Atlanta. Then he went to try to help General hood save Middle Tennessee. He died in Nashville on September 4th 1886 and is buried in Mount Olivet Cemetery in Nashville. The back of the cardstock is photographer marked by the Anthony firm in New York. Anthony was one of the premiere photographers of the Civil War. The overall size of a CDV image is approximately 2.5 inches by 4 inches in size. It has some marking on the face of the image and is priced accordingly. This is a Confederate General CDV that you don't see offered very often.
