Here is a great looking button! This is the button that was worn by the soldiers from the State of Maine. It is the pattern that was listed as figure ME4 in Albert's button book and as ME100b10 in Tice's button book. The face of the button has the large star design. Around the edge of the button it has 17 stars on a lined background. This button is constructed of copper because copper takes silver plating better than brass. This one still retains a trace amount of the original silver in the protected areas of the lined field of the button face. These are one piece buttons and this one is in excellent shape with the original shank nicely intact on the reverse. You can also read the backmark of "SUPERIOR PLATED". These generic style back Mark's were used so the retailer could sell the buttons without advertising for the actual button maker. This is a great looking specimen all the way around.
