Here is a nice looking original Civil War foot officer sword. These were officially known as the U.S. model 1850 foot officer sword and they were the classic style that was carried by officers during the Civil War. It has a nice full-length 30 inch blade. This is the version that was made with the original etching on the sides. The etching is a floral pattern with military designs in the center that include cannon, flag and spear images. Many of the nice quality officers’ swords such as this one were manufactured in France and imported for sale to well-to-do officers. The brass on the guard and pommel cap has a wonderful untouched look with a deep color. The handle has an attractive look with an excellent amount of the original sharkskin grip remaining. It also has the original twisted copper wire wrapping still nicely around the sharkskin grip. The sword is accompanied by the steel and brass scabbard. The scabbard has both of the mounts and rings intact as well as the original throat and drag. This is a very nice original Civil War foot officer’s sword with a pretty blade.
