This is an original coat size Confederate staff officer’s button. This is the Confederate manufactured style listed by Albert as CS22 and in Tice’s book it is listed as figure CS257a1. The face of this button has a very attractive chocolate color patina with nice detail as you can see. The original brass back is present with original brass wire shank is present on the back of the button. The verbal history that accompanied this button was recovered in Shelbyville, Tennessee along the Duck River. Shelbyville was a staging area before and then after the battle of Stones River in Murfreesboro, Tennessee. This is a good looking excavated Civil War Confederate staff officer’s coat button with shank.
