This is an original tintype image of a Union soldier from the Civil War. This one is a full-length tintype image of a Union infantryman in full uniform. He proudly stands wearing his enlisted pattern frock style military coat. This is the uniform that was so often worn by the regular fighting men during the Civil War. He wears the cartridge box over his shoulder and you can see the eagle breastplate that the photographer even painted a small eagle in gold gilding. Around his waist he wears the "US" belt buckle. In front of him, he proudly holds the .69 caliber ' Springfield style military musket. You can tell by the lockplate that the gun is the model 1842 pattern Springfield military musket. He is standing in front of a cap scene painted backdrop with the flag and tent design. These painted backdrops are usually a sign of being photographed by traveling photographer. The image is vividly clear from all angles with the blemishes you can see in the pictures. This one is the size known to collectors as the quarter plate image.
