This is a wonderful CDV image of one of the most famous figures of the American West. This CDV image is featuring an early view of Buffalo Bill Cody wearing a fur-trimmed coat. The image is on the original card mount and along the bottom of the paper it is credited to Howell, Broadway, New York. This one would date from about 1874. This is a rare portrait taken during the first few years of Cody's career performing with the Buffalo Bill Combination by Howell, a studio well known for photographing New York celebrities. Because of this early date however, Cody was likely not a well-known stage star at this point in his career. The quality of the CDV likely precludes it having been sold by Cody's stage company, and it was likely sold by a stationery store and directly at the photographer's studio. On the back of the card it is unmarked except for the pencil price from another dealer of "750". What a great image of the famous Buffalo Bill Cody!
