Here is a cool looking gun! It is an original .36 caliber revolver from the famous Colt firearms Company. This is one of the desirable ones that have the Hartford production location marked across the top of the full-length 7-1/2 inch barrel. These were done just prior to the Civil War and some of this series were delivered to the Southern states including Alabama. These .36 Colt revolvers were a favorite of soldiers on both sides. Among the soldiers that used the .36 colt were Confederate General Nathan Bedford Forrest. One thing that is neat about this gun is the field alteration underneath the barrel. You can see that eons ago, the end of the loading lever clip must have broken off. It was "fixed" by moving the clip back as well as the latch. It fires the standard six shots and is of the model 1851 design. It has all matching serial numbers of 86,142 including the barrel wedge. These serial numbers let us know the gun would have been made in 1858. The action of the gun works smoothly on all positions. The metal parts have a pretty attic gray tone all over. The brass of the trigger guard and backstrap both retains some of the original silver wash that is missing most of the time. The cylinder of the gun still retains about 40% of the naval battle scene on it. On the handle of the gun are the original 1-piece walnut grips. As you can see this revolver is definitely a step above the ones you usually encounter. This is a nice and solid original .36 caliber Colt revolver with the desirable Hartford production location marking.
