This is a very attractive weapon! It is the desirable musket that is known to collectors as the "Brown Bess". This is one of the most famous styles of weapon ever produced. This is the 3rd model that would have been made around the time of the War of 1812. This one is a fine looking piece from all angles. It has the desirable "TOWER" arsenal mark on the lockplate as well as the British Crown stamp and the "GR" letters marking the reign of King George of England. This pattern of marking is consistent with the quality that was sent out to some of the British territories of the time. The action works crisply on all positions. The barrel of the musket is full-length at 39-1/8th inches in length and fires a smooth .72 caliber musket ball. At the breech of the barrel it has the single Birmingham commercial proof mark. One thing that is neat is that it has the Liege Belgium proof marking that lets us know it was made in Belgium for the English market. The stock is attractive with a good look and rich grain and a light tone. All of the brass parts have a mellow golden tone. There were lots of brass parts on these guns including the buttplate, triggerguard, ramrod channel guides and nose cap. It has the modern made replacement ramrod in the channel underneath the barrel and it matches perfectly. Both of the sling swivels are present. If you have wanted an attractive 3rd model Brown Bess flintlock, then this one is for you.
