Authentic 1863 Dated Confederate $10 Note With C.S. Senator Hunter
Click on an image to enlarge
This is an authentic example of the 1863 issued Confederate States of America $10.00 bill. This is the version with the beautiful capitol of the State of South Carolina Capitol in the center. The note is dated April 6th 1863 and was issued from Richmond, Virginia. It has pretty blue ink print on the back of the note. In the lower right hand corner is the likeness of Robert M.T. Hunter who served as Confederate Secretary of State and a C.S. Senator. Before the War he was a U.S. Congressman and Senator from Virginia. On the back of the note it has the beautiful ornate designs with several Roman numeral "X" which of course stands for the 10 denomination. This is the pattern of note listed as T-59 in Criswell's book on Confederate currency. The note is correctly hand signed and numbered. It is in very attractive circulated condition that has a fine look. When you hold it up to the light you can see the slices in the shape of an "X" where the note was taken out of circulation by the Confederate government. This process was known as cut-cancellation. This lets you know the note was actually used during the Civil War. The note comes in an acid free holder for display and preservation.
