This is a cool looking little gun. This is the single shot pistol that was made by the Colt Firearms Company of Hartford, Connecticut. It has their maker's mark and production location along the top of the 2-1/2 inch barrel. These fire a single bullet of .41 caliber. The sides of the barrel have the engraving including the floral design. The frame on these guns are made of iron and this one has a nice gray tone tone to the patina. The engraved scroll work on the metal displays superbly as you can see in the pictures. The action on the little gun still has spring and still catches on both of the positions. When you cock back the hammer the button on the side releases the barrel so it can pivot to the side for loading. On the underside of the barrel as well as on the bottom of the grip it has the serial number of 5,635. According to Flayderman they made approximately 9,000 of these pistols between 1870 to 1890. The beautiful 2-piece grips are intact with a gorgeous ancient look to the wood. This is a very nice looking and complete .41 caliber rimfire Deringer pistol by Colt.
