This is a good looking weapon! It is an original and classic Civil War Sharps cavalry carbine. This is the model 1863 and it is so marked on the top of the barrel near the frame. It also has the clear Sharps Rifle Company maker mark and Hartford, Connecticut production location. The lockplate has the Sharps patent mark and dates that are also vividly clear. The action catches on one of the 2 positions. It has matching serial numbers of C,19119 which is the way that Sharps marked this as being the 119,119th carbine that was made. This is within the Civil War production ranges. The barrel is full-length and has the original front sight intact and the rear sight has been replaced. The bore of the gun has nice lands and grooves still clearly visible. The stock is an attractive grade walnut with a well used but not abused look. The saddle ring bar is original and present as is the saddle ring. On the wood by the saddle ring you can still see the pair of inspector cartouches where the gun was approved for military use by the Government inspector. This is a good looking Civil War 1863 model Sharps cavalry carbine that was used but not abused.
