This is a nice looking original CDV image of a Civil War Union soldier. The soldiers would buy these from the photographers in the cities or even from traveling photographers that would come to camp. They would purchase them in small quantities to send home to family or friends. This one shows the Union soldier in his uniform. Ont he back of the card it has the pencil identification to Robert P. WIlson. Our friends at have a signed image of him and it is definitely him. The records show that he enlisted on April 24th 1861 in the 16th New York Infantry and served with them until he was promoted to the Adjutant General Department in March of 1863. On April 10th 1863 he was commissioned into the Field & Staff of the 121st New York Infantry as a Major. He declined the Commission and was discharged. A brief printout on Wilson's service will accompany the image. This is a fine looking original CDV image of a Union soldier in uniform.
