Here is an original card from the 1911 edition of Baseball Cards produced for Sweet Caporal Cigarettes. These were inserted into packs of cigarettes to promote the cigarettes as well as to keep them from getting bent. These feature an image in the center of a player on the front with the name and team noted below their picture. This one shows Charley O'Leary of the Detroit Tigers. On September 30, 1934, several weeks shy of his 59th birthday, O'Leary was called out of retirement by the Browns. In a pinch-hitting appearance, he singled and scored, becoming both the oldest Major League Baseball player to collect a hit and to score a run. It has been graded by the PSA, Professional Sports Authenticator. They have rated the card as a 3MC, which stands for Very Good but off-cut. It is encapsulated in their casing for display and preservation.
