Nice Looking 1870's .22 Caliber Rimfire Revolver Made by the Famous Whitney Company
Click on an image to enlarge
This is a nice looking little gun. It is the gun known to collectors as the .22 caliber Whitney Model No. 1 revolver. These were made from 1871 until 1879. According to Flayderman's guide they only made about 3,500 of this model. This one has the serial number of 13,846(they mixed these numbers with other models) on the bottom of the handle. The 2-piece rosewood grips are intact and they look nice as you can see in the images. The brass frame has a very pleasing honey color to the brass. The barrel is full-length at 2.5 inches and across the top you can still read the "WHITNEYVILLE ARMORY CT. U.S.A.". It still retains a trace amount of the original bluing on the barrel. The action cocks back but the hammer doesn't stay in the cocked position. This is the version that fires seven shots. This is a lot of gun for an affordable price.
