Rare Civil War Production .36 Caliber Double Action Starr Revolver
Click on an image to enlarge
This is a scarce gun! It is one of only 3,000 of the .36 caliber version of revolver made by the Starr Company of New York. The gun has a couple of visible serial numbers of 2,920 with the cylinder being 2,964 out of the 3,000 production. All of these revolvers were made from 1858 until 1860. They made many times this amount of the double action .44 Starr revolver but you rarely encounter these .36 versions. They can easily be differentiated by the small but longer cylinder that was designed to fire the smaller .36 caliber cartridges. The barrel of the gun has the full-length 6 inch barrel. You can still read the Starr patent and 1856 patent date on the left hand side of the frame and on the right it has the clear "STARR ARMS CO. NEW YORK" stamp. The metal of the gun has a smooth surface with a mottled color. On the handle of the gun it has the original walnut wood grips that are made from a single piece of wood and they have a nice look. The mechanics on this gun rotate just as they should. These guns utilize the double action design. On the back side of the trigger it has the slide that functions as a safety. This one is still functional. This is a scarce gun that you won't likely see again any time soon.
